Aloha, everyone from ClubCharm!

Today is Friday, which only means that we have Zumba today! The girls enjoy it, Aunty Vi enjoys it, and the mommies love it too!

We have been diligent in tending to the garden, and starting soon, we will be having garden activities every single week on Thursdays with Big Sister Vivianne!

"Oh, Baby!" expo is coming up on October 8 and 9, and ClubCharm will be in attendance! We will have a booth and demo-room to showcase what ClubCharm is all about. The Big Sisters, Aunty Vi, and the Charmlings will be there with us. So come on down to the Oh, Baby expo at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Saturday and Sunday, October 8 and 9!

Aloha, everyone!

All apologies for the lack of posts that have been made on our blog.

The summer months have come and passed us by a little too quickly. We have had memorable visits from our members from across the Continent. A few of us took trips to different countries and states, so when we got back, we were able to share the new memories with our ClubCharm sisters.

We have many MANY new volunteers who we are just so grateful for, we have new members, and a great new activity that was added to our weekly mix.

Guess what that new activity is?

It's the new hyped-craze of Zumba!

YES! Since the end of July, the girls will be participating in an hour long Zumba course. But, what is also great is the fact that the parents are now taking part in this activity as well! ClubCharm is now offering an hour Zumba (with a few minutes of yoga to relax down to in the beginning) right after the girls do the activity. So as the girls are doing the ChitChat with the Big Sisters and Aunty Vi, the mommys are downstairs doing what their daughters just did! The course is just $5 for the parents, and boy that is great!

Good afternoon, everyone!

To catch everyone up: This is the month of May, and our theme is "Common Courtesy."

Here are a few notes from the month:

-- On May 2, 2011 ~ Radiant led the first chit-chat on Common Courtesy, an introduction: Explains w/stories: 1) Mayuki and headband = taking care of other's property 2) Radiant in the office, and she broke the printer = Owning up to own faults/responsibilities. Common courtesy: Show people you're thoughtful, considerate. Why is being courteous important? To be friendly, respectful. The Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want ot be treated. Show everyone who you are! You can do this by your attitude, which reflects your character. It is important to apologize and mean it! Also, say, "I love you" to your parents! Practice being courteous during the chit-chat, and Radiant (or whoever may be doing the chit-chat).

-- May = Common courtesy - thoughtful actions: Specific - Clean up toys, wait your turn, fix what you break, own up to what you break, don't take what's not yours, when you're crossing the street; Make an effort: start small, add on (build up) look interested!

-- Good manners, thoughtful actions are all apart of common courtesy. Word of the day: Honesty. Honesy means to tell the truth. But, in the context and it relates to common courtesy, if someone spilled milk and you helped clean up, it still isn't common sense and is known as tattling. No one is hurt, but you tell on everything, and it becomes annoying. There are times when we should keep things to ourselves. What if someone says "fat," "short," etc. You can only control what YOU do/say - Be careful!

-- Having compassion. Compassion is feeling for others. Empathy: Putting yourself in another person's place.

-- Being social - being interactive in a group. You have a choice on how to behave (like leaving trash or cleaning it up). Common courtesy: Location. It helps to be aware of your location, because in Hawaii - you take off your shoes before entering someone's home, on the Mainland, you would probably leave it on. Be aware of movies = PG13 = Wait until you're older so you will be able to understand. You cannot un-see what you see. Try to build good habits now so that you have them for later.

-- Compassion for older and younger sisters: Be thoughtful, try to focus, be a good role model, if you have questions, raise your hand, and most importantly - have patience. The Charm10's help with examples of common courtesy, i.e.: Covering your mouth when sneezing, saying "thank you" and "excuse me," etc. Why do manners matter? It "keeps the peace" between family, class, friendships, and the world.

Hey, everyone!

Happy Valentine's to you all! The girls were graced with a smaller load of homework today so they were able to finish just in time to get started with the chit-chat.

We had chit-chat before our activity because we knew that the activity would take much longer.

In today's chit-chat, we spoke about how disrespectfulness becoems a habit so we're going to "attack it" because we only wish for the girls to be the best versions of themselves. We also talked about love! What is celebrated is usually for couples, but, on this day, we recognize those who love us and who we love.

Our activity was baking red velvet cupcakes! I didn't want to waste our cream cheese so I added it to some cookies as well! Yum!!!

Hi all,

I apologize for a late post...
This post is in regards to last week Friday, February 4th.

So we originally wanted to catch lizards, but we kept running into caterpillars...not just ANY caterpillars...the ones that will grow into the beautiful monarch butterflies!! We were able to catch 5 of them!! We put them into a big container with some water, leaves, and a branch. The girls were having so much fun watching them crawl around; not to mention they were pretty proud of themselves for catching them. It was sad for the girls to let them go because no one would be around to take care of them over the weekend.

And we'd also like to welcome Kylee-Ann and Lauren to their first day at ClubCharm and they did so well joining in with chit-chat and playing and eating with the other girls. We all had a great time!

The theme for February is LOVE so the chit-chat topic was self-love, but we also recapped on the Charm 10's for Kylee-Ann and Lauren. So we discussed self-love and self-image. You have to change the way you think of yourself. We talked about all our individual talents: art&crafts, being helpful, being a people person, being friendly, etc. The girls learned its good to accept yourself for who you are and to create a positive self-image of yourself.

Oooooh la la! I wish everyone who wasn't here at ClubCharm today was here, because we had an amazing meal today, yes we did!

So the girls were all rosy and sun-kissed from the amazing CharmCruise that took place on Saturday. The girls went to Kaneohe Bay and were boated out to the sandbar with Captain Craig, Aunty Vi, and Aunty Lynn! Although I was not present at the excursion, I knew very well that the girls had an aaaamazing time. I was able to see pictures and videos from the excursion and I am even making the slideshow including the pictures and videos from that day. These are just precious memories that I know should be kept forever!!! The chit-chat on the boat was about "R&R," focusing on relaxation. It is essential to replenish our bodies and to take care of that, we must have time to relax and allow our body to replenish it's energy.

As I was making the slideshow, I ran into a few speed-bumps. The girls were my cheerleaders, and helped me stay positive, and with all that positive energy, you bet I was able to figure it all out! I am so thankful for them lifting me up, even though I was feeling down.

Then, the girls assisted Aunty Vi in cooking vegetable pasta! Man, oh, man, it was GOOD! There were barely any leftovers so it is obvious how good this pasta was... Congratulations to Janelle, who, thanks to "courtesy bites," was able to try new food! This meal was overall an extremely healthy meal: red pepper, celery, broccoli, cheese, and I may be forgetting some ingredients, but believe me, it was amazing!

Tomato pasta with basil from our own garden!

OMG! We made tomato basil-based pasta, with pasta from our ClubCharm Garden! It was simply delicious, and I applaud the girls for trying new *healthy* food!

Here were some key points from our chit-chat today:
- Girls rule because ClubCharm is our "spot": "Do what girls do!"
- If you're the best version of yourself, you never fail yourself.
- There will always be "junk, bad" days... Not everything can go your way.
- When you don't feel good, don't try to make everyone feel bad too, it isn't fair.
- If someone cares for you and is responsible for you, you should care too.

Spaghetti!

Today, I want to commend Miss Rayna Kau for such an amazing job in transforming her homework assignment into a beautiful example of pride in workmanship. Her drawings started as stick-figures and then Aunty Vi encouraged her to add a bit more detail, and she did so times a billion! Great job!

Our chit-chat for the day was wrapping up our month on work ethic. The focus was mainly on how to be prepared, attitude-wise, and other ways, when the girls get a job. I was able to understand the chit-chat in a more personal way as I have already entered the workforce when I was in high school. The girls were encouraged and reminded that timeliness is of importance, and just plain showing up. Many people who are in the workforce have trouble just showing up to begin with.

Then, while some girls helped in making our CC Tens version 2.0 on a scroll-like paper, some of us helped Aunty Mal make fabulous spaghetti meat sauce and garlic bread. It was extremely yummy for our tummys and we all sure enjoyed it! Thank you so much, Aunty Mal!

The girls had Yoga with Aunty Karen and we continued the chit chat about Work Ethics. Which lead to the topic of personal hygiene. It's good to develop good cleaning habits while growing up. The girls learned the importance of washing and scrubbing good when taking a bath. And as you get older and start developing pimples/pores it's not good to pick at it or scratch because it will scar. Ask your mom for help so that you can consult a Dermatologist (skin doctor). And as you get older you'll learn to check your body for any abnormal growths. All very good lessons learned today, just like every day. Look forward to seeing you girls again this Friday!

BANANA CREAM PIE!

The activity for today was baking. Aunty Mal brought a recipe for a banana cream pie, and that is exactly what we made. It turned out amazing! It is much better than other banana cream pies because the pie that we made at ClubCharm had exceptionally a great amount of bananas than any other pie we've ever had!

Since the baking activity neared the start of our chit-chat, we ate our pieces of pie and had our chit-chat in the creative area. Our chit-chat was about apologizing. There are different ways to apologize. The girls learned that we should apologize for an action, and not just to say the word. In other words, we must be humble, considerate, and aware of the responsibilities of our actions.

Good evening, everyone!

This is an update for both Monday and today. I was extremely happy to see the girls again after our winter/holiday break. The girls were just as excited to see me. I saw an extravagant difference in attitude in the girls, and maybe it could be because I saw them quite often, but I have finally seen the positive difference that the girls have made at their time here at ClubCharm.

Our ChitChats are focusing on showing love, respect, appreciation, especially to those who give it to us the most: our parents. The girls wrote a list of ways we can share and show our love to our parents.

This year, the girls will be more hands on and more independent with the projects and homework. I can't wait to see the girls grow up and progress right in front of my eyes!

Today we were finishing up our workshop for our Holiday CharmFaire on December 12! Then, it was yoga with Aunty Karen.

Our chit-chat of the day included:

Aloha, everyone!

Today was an amazing day. On the go-g0-go as we always are, it is always essential to take the time to stop and do something therapeutic. The arts and crafts that is incorporated in the ClubCharm program helps the girls here do just that. Today was all about crafts. The girls were decided on their own which arts and crafts they wanted to do. The girls already have a feel and experience with the arts and crafts of their choosing, but of course, us Charmadoras and Aunty Vi and Aunty Lani were there to assist.

Our chit-chat for today is about sharing. We share many things in our lives. It is amazing how we can come up with things so simple as sharing toys and have the conversation lead up to sharing love, friends, smiles, etc.

The girls did an amazing job sharing significant moments in their day as well.

Thought-Provoking Thursday!

Happy Thursday!

First, I want to say how proud we are of Janelle! SHe has improved so much. She is taking such pride in her crafts by taking her time. It's a blessing to watch her evolve into such a young lady.

As part of the clubcharm pledge, the girls say "I will not do drugs or smoke cigarettes." But! We must be mindful of those who DO smoke because it's a hard habit to quit. SO, the best thing we can do is not start!

Today's chitchat is on BULLYING.

-There is a fine line between being mean and bullying. SOme people can handle meanies, but bullying can make you so miserable that it affects your mind, heart and feelings and no one has the right to do that.

- Types of bullying: verbal, physical, cyber, property damage.

- WORDS CAN KILL

- Most important thing to remember: TELL, TELL, TELL! Identify the person in change and tell them the facts in a strong, non-whiney voice.

- Give bullies one warning: "leave me alone or I will charge you with bullying!" Be serious about your rights. Next time it happens, go straight to the authority.

Today, ClubCharm was visited by an angel during chitchat. We all saw a bright flash of light coming from different angles. We really DO have angels watching over us! :)

The Charmlings made a special doggy house for Daisy! It's was very creative and full of colors!

The chitchat was on finance and money. Does money make you happy? You need money to survive, which makes you happy. Without it, it can cause problems which leads to being unhappy.

Budget: An allowance; limited amount of money to use

Solution: Plan before you spend, Don't but the first thing you see

When at ClubCharm, parent gives Charmlings an allowance, but what happens when the money runs out? Ask for more money, SHARE! Buy cheaper food, Bring your own snacks

Money doesn't grow on trees. What does that mean? Izzy says it's a non-renewable source (She's so smart!)

Aunti Vi went over possible expenses that parents have each month.

Starting: $10,000

Mortgage: $5,000

School/Club: $2,000

Utilities/Maintenance: $300

Food: $1,000

Transportation: $200

Fun/Entertainment: $200

Total: $8, 700

What's left for savings?? $1,300

It costs a lot to live! Have some compassion for parents because they have to work so hard to keep us happy. Be thankful for what parents do for us!

Hey everyone!

- The girls arrived and did their homework.
- The craft that Aunty Lani had for the girls today was the continuation of making chef memo holders. The girls painted the face color on a card type and used yarn for hair. The girls made boy-chefs before and today, the girls requested that they make girls, which of course, is what Aunty Lani had planned for them.
- The girls then had snack before chit-chat. Popcorn was requested by one Charmling and she so graciously shared it with the rest of the girls. Since today was quite a windy day, a few of the Charmlings requested for saimin.
- It was a good day to sit outside with pillows and blankets, so the girls asked Aunty Vi if we could hold the Chit-Chat out on the lanai.
- The chit-chat was about being genuine. It is good to stay sincere, authentic and real. All in the same. It is better to be consistent in our actions as we may not want to appear fake to others if they see us in a different light. We also touched base on why is it that we are not as nice to those who love us the most. We must remember to start with our family first with good habits and actions.

- Homework was accomplished at a great pace today which only meant for time for the day's activities!
- Girls helped Aunty Vi make earrings that were Christmas themed. Aunty Vi was very appreciative for the help and was surprised at how well the girls were able to learn and make the earrings. Great job girls!
- Mondays are our baking days here at ClubCharm! We made the shortbread cookies and this time we used the cookie cutters. The girls added sprinkles and even at the last batch, Aunty Vi suggested arare! The girls are getting so great and of course, we cannot forget to thank Aunty Mal for all her help with baking!
- The ChitChat was about being considerate. Although we may say it in our ClubCharm motto, "I will be responsible for my actions and kind and considerate of others," we must also incorporate it into our lives. It makes our parents, teachers, family members and friends feel important and appreciated and it shows respect when consideration is given.

Today the chitchat was on: Presenting Ourselves to the World

Self image is important because it's what we think of ourselves. Presenting ourselves, the way we dress, why we dress differently for different occasions, is our way of showing the world that we care about our appearance.

The girls were asked to give examples of how we should dress at certain places:

Home: t-shirt, shorts, shirtless, holes in shirt

Work: suit, dress, heels, black shoes

Play: tank top, shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes

School: shorts, shirt, uniform

Aunti Vi asked the girls, "What if a Doctor went to work dressed like a basketball player?" Ai answered: He would be cold! (We all get a kick out of that one!) :)

What Aunti Vi is getting at is that for more formal occasions, we need to dress the part and put thought in to what we wear. By doing this we gain trust, and don't confuse people.

When dressing for home or play, we are free to express ourselves and have fun!

Today the charmlings were reindeer and charmpuff making machines! They are getting very good at perfecting their skill. We are hoping to raise a lot in December for our art fund!

The chitchat was carried over from yesterday. Aunti Vi reiterated the importance of team building and contributing to the team in a different way to build dynamic. The #1 quality every team needs is dependability, "I will do what I say."

- After some of the girls finished their homework, they followed Aunty Vi downstairs to water the CharmFairy garden.
- Girls taught me how to make a CharmPuff! I know... I am SUCH a late bloomer. I am so grateful for the girls teaching me how to do so.
- We all did the Chit Chat early so that we could do our crafts activity for the rest of the time.
- The chit chat was about being dependable. It stemmed off from the previous chit chat about Team Building. "I will do as I say" was recited to make for dependability practice.
- The girls got the chit chat and responded to it so well that they were awarded frozen POG or juice POG.
- Then, Aunty Lani arrived and we got to our activity! We made reindeers with towels! All the girls were able to finish a reindeer and even Aunty Lynn joined us! This is such a great activity and I am sure that we can't wait to make more for the Holiday Crafts Fair!

Munch munch munch!

After the girls finished their homework, we all, Aunty Vi and I included, cut out our own punch cards that would indicate whether we made our beds or not. It is titled "Make Your Bed" card. It is so adorable and the girls were able to decorate it themselves with crayons, markers and colored-pencils. The girls decorated as to the way their rooms actually were or how they wanted it to be.

Once we were done with our punch cards, we helped strip chicken for the quesidillas. The girls were able to taste a bit of what they helped make!

Then, once the girls finished eating, it was time for chit-chat. The chit-chat was about questions and the questions definitely varied. However, the variation went from simple questions, such as "What is you favorite color?" to "Is the world too mean or too kind?" What we can learn from is this is that we can all learn from these questions and that questions can make a conversation. It is also essential because conversations can start relationships.

Aunty Mal was making pasta with anchovies in it and, oh boy, it was yummy! The girls even took the noodles home! Thank you, Aunty Mal!

The girls learned all about respect today!

The chitchat was about respectful nature using non-verbal communication.

1- Pay attention

2- Listen to person who is talking

3- Don't talk while others are talking

4- Think before you speak

5- Eye contact

6- Respond-- speak so they can hear you

Aunti Vi asked the girls to think of universal ways to be polite and respectful. The charmlings answered: Smilie while saying "Yes" (instead of what) and thank you!

The charmlings were also asked to think about disrespectful behaviors we use towards family. The girls responded with: rolling eyes, "tsk, tsk, tsk", "I know", saying "what", sigh, spitting, gossiping, not coming when called, yelling, mumbling, frowning, and sloughing.

What does this tell us?? The charmlings know what being disrespectful means! Which mean they can nip it in the bud before it get out of control :)

Why Manners Matter!

Congratulations to Rayna, Chrissa, and Janelle for making their beds this morning without being asked! Great job girls!

Today the charmlings were treated to hair and make-up! They all look so beautiful!

Out chitchat was about Why Manners Matter.

Aunti Vi gave the girls a task. They had 15 minutes to look for the answer using teamwork and the computer. They figured out how to "google" all by themselves. Once they found the answer, they took turns writing it on the board.

"Manners affect our heart. Manners affect the people around us and our relationships. Once we have a heart to respect and consider the other person our manners are transferable to most situations."

In other words, manners matters so people will get along.

Examples, wait your turn, chew with your mouth closed, greetings.

Our little charmlings worked so well together! We are so proud :)

Oh, goodness! The amount of new things learned at ClubCharm are absolutely mind-blowing! When I was the girls' ages, I never imagined a place like ClubCharm at all, but what a treat it is. What other place would be get to bake bread one day, then learn to make wili leis the next!? That's right, it could be at home... But that what ClubCharm has become for us Big Sisters and Charmlings. We are learning life skills that enable us all to be the best version of ourselves.

The activity for today was to make wili leis! Wow, I have much appreciation for everyone who knows how to do this. We worked in partners today, because teamwork is always great. The girls picked up so quickly and were very into making their wili lei beautifully patterned. Thanks to Aunty Lani of course!!! Aunty Lani also brought a DVD from Keali'i Reichel's halau concert in 2006 that was held at the Blaisdell Center. This completely put everyone in the mood with the beautiful music, voices, dances and the examples of great haku leis, hula skirts/attire in general that were most likely made by the halau members themselves.

Speaking of doing things for ourselves, our chit-chat for today was about cleaning up after yourself. It is respectful to others and covers the ClubCharm motto of being responsible for our actions and kind and considerate of others. The girls showed their actual real-life examples of ways that they clean up after themselves. The girls cleaning up after themselves also makes it easier for their parents as it is one less thing to do .

Happy Friday!

Today's chit chat was all about growing up! Aunti Vi reminded the girls not to grow up too fast. The Big Sisters talked about adolescence, the teenage years. Changes in the body, and the way way you feel and think will cause a great deal of questions. These years relate to parenting by the way we start to separate from our parents, and we start to become more independent. As we get older, we need to address our parents respectfully by articulating, and verbalizing our thoughts and feelings.

As children, our parents shield us from things we can't understand, not until we are older. We can't un-see what we saw, or un-hear what we heard. Our parents are here to protect us. If we have bad dreams or bad thoughts, our parents are here to listen to what we have to say, "talk it out of you."

It's important to have a good relationship with our parents as children, so that we can grow and have great relationships with them as adults.

Today the Big Sisters got to lead chit chat!

We talked about how we feel when friends go away. Almost all the charmlings said they would feel sad and would cry a lot. As Big Sisters, we gave them suggestions of ways to help the situation. We told them there were several ways to feel happy again. They can email, call, write letters, Skype, visit, or text. These are ways to keep in contact and have a lasting friendship.

After the chit chat, Ai and Becca offered to mop and sweep. We thought it was a great time to play "Cinderella." We found some fun Disney tunes from their favorite movies, and they quickly got to work! Thanks girls! You did a great job!

Good job Myla for threading your own needle! Hope you enjoy your treat :)

Today, the charmlings did weaving and needlepoint. Aunti Lani taught us how to make tea cup holders out of fabric and yarn. The girls are doing such a great job! Everyone is so creative :)

Today's chit chat was on responsibility. What does it mean to be responsible? Some of Aunti Vi's examples were doing what you say you're going to do, picking up after yourself because you made the mess, and own up to it.

The charmlings said being responsible means to pick up after yourself, pick up your toys, take home belongings, start homework by yourself, and if you break something, fix it.

Being responsible builds trust and character, people start depending on you, and it prevents bigger problems from happening in the future.

'Twas a very busy day! Island Family Magazine spent the day with the girls at ClubCharm and the girls enjoyed it!

Since it was Wednesday, Aunty Lani came over with an amazing idea to make a Fairy Door! One of our charmlings, Mei, read a story about fairies from a book Aunty Lani brought for us to share!

Our chit-chat was about "Why ClubCharm" and reasons parents love to send the charmlings to ClubCharm. Some things said were: "to become ladies," "manners," "respectful nature," "for consideration and kindness" and so much more. This lead us to a discussion about how our parents do things for us for our own good and would never put the little charmlings in danger. This lead to a talk about what happens when we do listen to our parents and have an open communication channel with our parents. Some of these things were: privileges, less stress for parents, make your parents' day, hang out with friends more, more trust, etc.

The girls are so in-tune with everything we do at ClubCharm which makes their willingness to learn a joy to witness.

Crafts with Aunty Lani!

Aunty Lani joined us and shared with us her many arts & crafts skills! Today we had angels on plastic that was able to be shrunk with a heating tool! We were all so amazed by it! Aunty Lani then brought us angel poems to all put into a card where our angels would be outside in a cute pocket. Aunty Lani is so talented and we're so thankful for everything she contributes to ClubCharm! The girls did such an amazing job!

Our chit-chat today was about habits and practicing good ones. Some good habits are: eye-contact, please and thank yous, brushing/bathing good hygiene, etc. The girls were able to identify the good and bad habits and put them into two columns with the opposing habit on each side. The girls also described everyone in the Zabuton Lounge with characteristics or what they see everyone else as. Such as: caring, friendly, responsible, bubbly, considerate, helpful and many other beautiful characteristic descriptions.

Munch munch munch!

Today, the girls helped make pancakes with Aunty Vi. The girls completed all the pre-heated mixing and even helped Aunty Vi in the kitchen!
As it goes, our chit-chat for today was about etiquette with emphasis on eating etiquette.

- With: Good posture: HHH (Head over heart over hiney) we look very proper and polite and people will take notice to how charming the girls look!

- Food to mouth! Not mouth to food. We aren't dogs of course ;)

- Be sure to eat quietly, large chomping may be distracting to others around you. It's being considerate of others!

- New tips that we learned from eating our pancakes today: Cut as you go and take small bites. :)

Freaky Friday the 13th!

Yoga was cancelled again because Auntie Karen is sick! We all hope she feels better soon!

Sadly, this is Mika's last friday with us :(. She is going back to Chicago, but will hopefully visit during winter break, and be back next summer! She will be missed!!

Today the chitchat was about concrete actions we all can do to be considerate of others. Auntie Vi made a list of suggestions for the girls to keep in mind.

1. PQX - please, thank you, excuse me

2. 1 time - when asked something, do it the first time

3. Share - Let some one else use it

4. Pick it up - Pick up your mess and others

5. Don't steal, or take things that aren't yours

Today went by so fast!

All the girls must have been starving because they kept me in the kitchen for hours! Luckily, I enjoy cooking for the girls :)

When they weren't eating, the charmlings were playing Uno, building a fort in the Zabuton lounge, and coloring.

Auntie Vi surprised them with a short video on bullying. All the girls were so good! They listened and stayed still the entire time! We are instilling positive habits within the girls and raising a better future! I'm so proud of them!

Today we had three new girls and boy are they a lot of fun!

- The girls went to the Zabuton Lounge to digest.
- The girls got some makeup and hair done.
- The girls then turned it around and started doing makeup and hair for the intern! Such silliness!
- The girls helped tidy up the Zabuton and put away the things that they played with before their parents came!

Happy Friday!

Today the charmlings made bracelets, necklaces, and charm puffs, as well as and watched the movie "Up."

Our chitchat today was about Love, "Love beings by taking care of the closets ones, the ones at home," -- Mother Theresa.

Aunti Vi asked if any of the charmlings have ever been rude or unpleasant to their parents/family, and several girls and big sisters raised their hands. Aunti Vi introduced two new vocabulary words: concentric circles (a bulls-eyes) and aphorism (a quote or saying that teaches you things in a nut shell). Within the bulls-eye, Aunti Vi asked, "who are the closest ones at home?"

1st & most important circle - family (mom, dad, brother, sister, etc.)

2nd circle - neighborhood (friends, school, etc)

3rd circle - city/state (getting involved)

4th circle - country

5th circle - world

** start from the family and radiate out; inside out not outside in.

The girls had a lot to contribute!

Today was a pretty mellow Thursday. We had (3) girls: Mika, Myla, and Manami. The girls did some arts and crafts, and got to eat a delicious treat from Aunti Carol.

Today was a special chitchat. Mika suggested it be about, "Why should there be angels?" Before we started on Mika's chitchat, Aunti Vi touched on yesterday's chit chat, "non-verbal communication," and how we make people feel welcome (smile, reach out to them). Since Manami is visiting from Japan and has a limited English vocabulary, Vi thought it best to get the girls to understand other ways of communication. Mika took to Manami quickly and had a great time showing her around.

The girls enjoyed talking about why they think there should be angels. Aunti Vi talked about what a clubcharm angel is: people who watch over you for God; who could these people be?: parents, grandparents, aunties, cats, dogs, friends, teachers, and big sisters, and referred to these people as guardian angels; why is it important to have angels?: because parents can't be everywhere and other are there to guide toy and keep you safe; How do you find your guardian angels?: by reaching out and asking for help, if you ask for help and define what you need, they will find you.

The girls learned that we need help during difficult times, and we need to reach out to our angels. She also told the girls that they need to believe in order for them to come.

What an awesome day!

Our activity for today was making clip-boards out of things such as cardboard from chip boxes or cereal boxes! Aunty Lani is so creative and resourceful! The girls were so focused and so excited about the activity that they finished the activity in such quick timing!

The girls were hungry and thirsty after all that concentration that they took a break and got their hair done by Aunty Vi!

Our chit-chat today was about conversation and how a small percentage of it is verbal (or what we say) as compared to our body language. Some of the girls mentioned it's what we do with our hands and face and also eye-contact. All these things are important and conversation skills will always be a hot-topic here at ClubCharm because it is what makes or breaks relationships! I completely agree!

Baking MONDAYS!

Hey hey hey! It's Radiant here! I am back from my trip yaaay!!!!!!! I experienced my first ClubCharm baking day! We made shortbread cookies with Aunty Mal! Each girl took a turn stirring and adding ingredients.

Our chit-chat for today was about consideration. During the Angel song, Mika was our lyrical conductor. While we were talking about Head over Heart over Hiney and Private-Parts-Private, Ella said, "A lady is a well-mannered and polite person who is a female." So adorable!

Since the word of the day was "consideration" here are some things the girls said about the word:
~ Myla -- Be and use kind words and don't be bossy.
~ Violet -- Manners, look pleasant, don't smell, "one time."
~ Charissa -- Treat people how you want to be treated.
~ Radiant (ME!) Think before you say, act before you do.
~ Mika -- Sharing, stay on topic
~ Emma -- Paying attention

We love Friday's at ClubCharm! Why, you ask? Because Friday's mean Arts and Crafts with Aunty Lani and Yoga with Aunty Karen. Aunty Lani showed the girls how to make Plantation IceTea. It was refreshing and yummy! The girls also put together a cookbook of recipes they have made over the past few months.

Today, we tried something new with out chit chats. We had a guest "Chitchater", one of the Charmlings, Ally. Since Ally love to cook, her topic was "Why we should know how to cook." Some of the suggestions from other Charmlings: to save money, to create character, to eat healthy and no junk, to make money (open a restaurant). Ally did a great job engaging the girls and asked thought provoking questions.

Ally asked the girls to write down some food items they have made. Nomi has made corn pudding, the Maloney sisters have made zucchini canoes, and Mika has made strawberry jello. The girls talked about the food pyramid and the importance of all the food groups. They learned, and were very saddened by the fact, that candy is not a food group, and is in fact bad for you.

Ally's chat was a success! We hope to see other girls talking about and sharing their passions and knowledge!

The month of June was primarily focused on developing:

CC Respect = Immediate Response with Verbal and Physical Acknowledgment
Very simply, training ourselves to immediately turn our bodies and respond yes when summoned (usually by our parents) improves our attention and focus.
Therefore keeping us out of trouble!!!! Prevention is Key!
It is a gift that costs nothing, yet meaningful and most valuable to our parents.
We make those we respond to feel important and relevant. We will begin to notice that the world treats us respectfully in return.

A Peaceful Nature
How to let things go.
It simply takes awareness and a conversation. The cackle of bickering coming from the ZabutonLounge raised the hairs on AuntyVi’s neck. I found the inevitable,
“I was here first” argument in progress. Yay! another ChitChat opportunity :0)
The little ‘charmlings’ were asked to huddle on the floor and a discussion ensued. (I’ll spare you the details)
In the end, each ‘charmling’ had the opportunity to decide whether this ‘fight’ was worth the consequence. When called upon, responses were all in the negative.
Another Yay!!!
The follow up twist to this mini ChitChat was that there are positions worth fighting for and at those times, we must have the courage to fight the good fight.
Let’s think about the energy we will expend on a fight and the importance of the fight before going down that road.

Self Control
We will end June’s ChitChat with the ability to control one’s negative impulses. ClubCharm promotes Self Expression in a positive way. We encourage painting, singing, dancing, journaling, etc.
There is the Freudian school of thought which influenced parents to minimize discipline to nurture happy children who were able to express themselves.
To effectively communicate what we will be chatting about, I present an excerpt from David Elkind’s “The Hurried Child.”

Such children, left largely undisciplined and unconstrained by demands, indulged their most primitive impulses; if they are not called upon to control themselves, they use their behavior to control adults. Yet in fact it is scary to a child to have power over adults. Consequently, handed a power they did not want, did not need, and could not handle, such children were willful, domineering, given to temper tantrums, and on the whole abominable.

It is evident that given the ‘data,’ limits and consistency, the probability of raising reasonable children increase.
We will define for them what Self Control means, its importance and how it will benefit them.

Today we made "charm puffs" out of different colored yarns and beads. The girls enjoyed this project and wore their "warm fuzzies" around club charm all afternoon.

Today's chit chat was about bullying. Aunty Vi wanted the girls to understand they cannot be victims to society. Every woman should be assertive of how they are being treated. Although we needed to keep some of the girls in check with their short attention span, we got through the chit chat. I hope that we got the message through to them.

Our favorite part of the day... Allie and my baking tradition. We've started a tradition that we bring something to bake every week and have the girls participate in cooking.

Seriously... What an amazing, fun-packed day at ClubCharm. We had so many girls here that the energy never died down. The activities for today were the crafts with Aunty Lani and yoga with Aunty Karen. For the crafts, we made pinatas for the CharmFest. The girls were making butterfly-shaped pinatas. What creative spirits! From all the great activities, the girls got real hungry and ordered things from CafeCharm. Then the mass of Charmlings headed downstairs with Aunty Karen for some great yoga. The chit-chat for today was acknowledging people. Making feel important will in turn have them make us important. We get what we create!

Hey Charmlings,

So today Allie brought over some Funfetti cake and icing. THe girls had a ball baking and eating some of our sweet creations. The girls were on a sugar high eating all the snacks in sight. But we taught the girls not to take more than what they can actually eat so that they are not wasting food.

Our chitchat today was on sisterhood. Everyone in our club charm sisterhood range from all ages. Having respect for our elders is very important. The Charmlings learned that us big sisters are hear to help them grow up to be mature, confident women. In return we ask for a little respect. :)

Our chit-chat for today was "being responsible for our actions." The focus was on cleaning up after yourself. Not only are we being responsible for our actions, but being kind and considerate to whomever would have had to clean up after us if we left a mess. Hey, that's our ClubCharm motto! "I will be responsible for my actions and kind and considerate of others." That's a winner!

The photo above is Charmling Mika drying the floors after she and Charmling Becca mopped. Behind Mika and behind the tables is Charmling Kaila who really wanted to vacuum and after offering to vacuum, we gladly let her to it. After the chit-chat, the girls were mean, lean cleaning-machines! Let's hope they incorporate this in their daily household chores! Their parents must be so proud!

Mika and Emma were playing pet-shop owners. They organized their own monetary value using monopoly money and playing cards and even knew how to be great saleswonen! What cuties!

I wanted to focus on Mika's shirt, it says, "My heart belongs to Grandpa." How adorable is that!

The other wonderful Charmlings were getting dolled up and requesting healthy goodies from CafeCharm. I have never made so many fruit smoothies in my life! OH yeah! I also made egg-salad sandwich for the first time ever today (with the great help of Aunty Vi of course)!

So today, we got to meet Lauren.

She's never oil painted before so she wanted to learn the technique. After practicing for a while, Lauren realized how challenging it was to oil paint. She says that she wants to continue practicing when she comes next time :)

Nami showed up today! Ally, Namie, Lauren, and I played Junior Monopoly. We had fun "girl bonding". Lauren, being the curious girl she is asked a lot about tattoos and their image. I'm fortunate to say that she doesn't have any. sigh.

We had a chit chat about self image. We learned that in order to succeed, we need to be confident with who we are.

Great day!

- New prospective visited and loooved what we do and is now in the process of becoming a member!!!!! EEEK! A new Charmling Lauren had an amazing time and was such a great participant in everything that we did :) She was such a great sport and was so ecstatic to be at ClubCharm!

- We have a new Big Sister/Charmadora who has joined us! Her name is Ashlyn and what a great attitude she has! So charming!

- We updated our self-portraits, or in some cases, made a new self-portrait. All which are soooo beautiful and truly shows the talents these Charmlings have.

- MUVE was done to get us all loosened up and ready for today's festivities.

- Then! We did the Electric Slide!

- Since the girls were SUCH sports and great participants they were treated to a snack treat.

- To digest and chill out we all relocated to the Zabuton Lounge until Aunty Karen arrived for yoga.

- The girls enjoyed a great hour of yoga and came back smelling amaaaazing! Thank you, Aunty Karen!

- Then, Charmling Ally practiced her already awesome makeup skills on ALL the other Charmlings and, OH, they looked so beautiful! See where practice gets you! All the Charmlings waited patiently for their turn to be Charmed Up. Once they saw the results of Ally's makeup skills, they wanted no one but Ally to work on them. Ah! Thank you, Ally! So talented!

- Before we knew it, it was time for the Chit-Chat! The chit-chat was about "How To Say It." The words we say are very important because we have to be careful about what others might feel like if we say something not so nice to them. In our chit-chat, we also talked about having faith that there will always be someone to watch over and help us, especially when we believe in that.

Welcome, Mika!

Mika joined our sisterhood six months ago. She lives in Chicago, but now she's starting school back in Hawaii. Today our chitchat's lesson was about "one time". Mika learned to listen to her grandparents when they ask her to do things THE FIRST TIME. That way is saves arguments, time, and there's more time to play later.

We baked DELICIOUS brownies. Aunty Vi suggested something new today- adding "crunchy monkey" to the brownies. It was something different and we ended up eating so much of the brownie!!! YU-MMY!!

Hey everyone!

As the days seem longer, it only means the more fun that we are able to have! Now, today -- before we got to any other activity, to get our blood pumping I decided that we should do MUVE. It was Miss Miya Brown's first time experiencing the fun-filled dancing movements of Muve.

The activities that took place today were:
1. Tooth Fairy Pocket making
2. The girls witnessing me make my first smoothie at ClubCharm.
3. Snack time
4. ChitChat
-- Our word of the day for the ChitChat was "acknowledgment." We talked about the importance of being responsive to everyone and, most importantly, to our parents/family.
5. Self-portraits.

Mia's first day oil-painting!

It was a great day with one of our new Charmlings who have never experienced an oil-painting day with the talented Yuan Shaw. Today the theme/inspiration that we painted today were anthuriums. They are SO beautiful! I did not even know that this is what the plant/flower was even called. The girls, with the great assistance of Yuan, started with a yellow-orange background and white-based vase then the long stems of the anthuriums.

This was a first for the girls to paint and I'd like to acknowledge Mia for being such a strong trooper and painting an actual painting for her first experience. In the beginning, beginners would start off with a background and blendings and even maybe a landscape, but Mia was able to tackle this task with us.

Baking Mondayyy's

Today was a free day because the girls Ally, Ai, and Jaelyn just had some free time while Tabitha did her homework. While they waited for Tabitha to finish they put sparkles on each other. how cute! When Tabitha was done with her homework they all worked together and baked a delicious devils cake which is a chocolate cake.

The chitchat today was done by Radiant & I [Lora], we talked about "Presenting Yourself". We talked about how Dress, Grooming, Body Language, and Conversation is a part of how we present ourselves. The girls were smart they knew that first impression is important.

The beautiful Charmlings tackled their homework with great enthusiasm. As they all began to finish one by one, one darling chose to continue he crocheting project, other wanted to update their self-portraits and one Charmling even drew one of me! :)

Today's chit-chat was about "taking things personally." Us Big Sisters or "Charmadoras" ;) have had our fair share of situations where our feelings would be hurt simply because we took it to heart. Of course, the Charmlings will begin to experience this as they grow up, so we wanted to address them. We all shared personal stories and discussed how we dealt wit the situation at that time. Now, thinking and reflecting back on those situations, how were we to react if the situation were to repeat itself?

Today, the girls started their other floral paintings for the showcase. The extraordinary Yuan Shaw had the girls work on 4 x 4 canvases as compared to the 10 x 10. Variety is great! The colors were magnificently radiant (no pun intended) and Big Sister Ally got to paint as well!

We had a fun group today! Maria, Miya, Jaylen, Remie, and Mia got to experience how astronaut's eat in space. Aunti Lani showed the girls how to make "crustables", which is simply cutting the crust off the bread, and sealing peanut butter and jelly in with a special tool. It tasted great! She also helped the girls make bread pudding. Delicious! Needless to say, the girls were quite full. Good thing Aunti Karen came to wake the girls up with an hour of yoga!

After yoga, the girls participated in a chitchat on Self-Defense. They all listened very well and were very interested in the topic. After, the girls danced to Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift before going home.

Today was a good day!

All About Ai

Today was a very mellow day! We had only one Charmling grace us with her presence -- Ai! It was all about Ai today :). Rebecca, Ai, and I sang a little Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, as well as fiddled around with PhotoBooth on Mac. Ai took lots of pictures in space, in a blazing inferno, on a roller coaster, and under the sea! She is very photogenic! She also wowed us some dance moves!

Thanks for coming in today Ai! You are so much fun to spend time with!

It's Crunch Time!

Today Yuan Shaw came and put the girls to work! The Art Show is just a few days away and the girls needed to finish and start some projects. Ai, Haley, and Jordan did a fantastic job! Everyone is so excited to see their work displayed for all to see!

Typically Tuesday's are strictly for Yuan and painting, but Aunti Vi surprised the girls with a short chit chat about perseverance and participation. Being as though Yuan comes only once a week, the girls need to try their best to be alert and push through fatigue in order to learn from such a talented painter. All the girls are growing as artists, and need to take in all the information Yuan provides.

As a Big Sister, I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of our talented charmlings! :)

Hello CC Ohana!! Happy Friday!!

Whew!! What a busy and hectic Furlough Friday it was today!! The girls made origami stars for star night tonight and made red velvet cupcakes and cut them into little stars and ate them with cream cheese frosting. Yummy! For lunch the girls had Zippy's chili, rice, and macaroni salad and finished the entire thing!!! They were really hungry today. Auntie Vi did the girls' hair and makeup for the big dance showcase tonight at the Blaisdell Center. We didn't have an afternoon chit chat because we ran out of time. :( The girls had a chit chat earlier in the day, but I came in the afternoon so I can't tell you what it was about! Sorry. Overall, despite the business and craziness of today (We had 14 girls and prospectives come in today!), we all had a great time together.

Furlough Friday!!

Aloha CC Ohana,
Today was a pretty relaxing day at CC. Auntie Lani helped us make little needlepoint surprises for Mother's Day. After some trouble getting started, the girls caught on quite well (better than some of the interns and staff!). After working on their crocheting, we ate delicious shredded chicken sandwiches, green organic salad, rolls, and cupcakes. We kept working on our Mother's Day gifts as the afternoon girls trickled in. The projects turned out beautifully. We had our chit chat about visualizing. Auntie Vi had the girls go through their day and then they got comfortable and visualized themselves at 9, 12, 16, and 27. After the girls visualized, the went to their journals and wrote descriptions of what they saw, smelled, tasted, felt, etc. I would say that having the girls visualize their future was one of the best chit chats thus far at CC. We then had a snack and Auntie Vi did some test makeup and hair on the girls for their big dance showcase coming up. Some of the girls were so tired from their week that they fell asleep in the Zabuton Lounge! It was so cute. Hopefully your weekend is filled with some of the love and joy that these girls and women have brought me.

Today Maria, Ai, and Tabitha helped to make some "crunchy monkey" cookies.

We left part of the batch in the fridge because didn't have enough time to cook them all. But we all had a taste and they were AMAZING!

For chitchat, we talked about peer pressure and compassion.

Ai and Maria are rubbing off a little on Tabitha (one of our newest members); everyone seems to get the picture of the sisterhood "compassion".

We also talked about peer pressure and standing up for ourselves. We try not to let people tell us to do things that we aren't supposed to!!

Today the girls worked hard till they finished all of their hw. While the girls were working on their hw, aunty vi bought some fashionable clothes for our charmling Maria because she will soon go to middle school and we wanted to find a new look for her. She looked so adorable with the clothes aunty vi bought.

Our chitchat today was about shame. We talked about how the way we act can cause shame to our parents if we went to a party and we didnt eat with etiquette it would embarrass our parents and they will feel ashamed.

After that, the girls had free time..

Having a little Style

Thank you, Maria for coming in today!! I hope you found part of your "style" that you want to take with you to middle school next year.

In today's chitchat we learned that having our own sense of style is very important. It only only takes three seconds for someone to make a good first impression of themselves.

Today, the girls (Ally, Jaelyn, Maria, and Tabitha) reviewed the topic, One Time~ Auntie Vi explained that this rule pertains to everyone--in situations with friends, classmates, and siblings, the 'one time' rule can be used to express our feelings at the time. For example, when you decide to poke your friend instead of calling out in a polite way and they say, "STOP," you should immediately stop. You may have been joking around, but they may not have liked the action and you should respect them. In situations with our parents, the 'one time' rule can save time and energy and make parents feel good and relieved.

As an activity, the girls each designed a hair ornament with which Auntie Vi creatively pinned in their hair. The hair ornaments were an example of when things, such as presents or little everyday adornments, are handmade, they can save money and are cute, creative and personalized gifts to share.

Relaxing Thursday

Today we continued to do the "Rear-View Reminder" clips, which is a hit! The girls showcase their personal style by how they design their clip.

We focused on how to be the "best version of ourselves." We also touched basis on how to be respectful by not correcting people/elders. Vi also helped one Charmling with her pop-up project of Main Street USA at Disneyland.

Hello everyone,

Our topic of the day this lovely Wednesday was "How to be the Best Version of Yourself!"

The two Charmlings present, Maria and Tabitha, gave examples of positive qualities of themselves. They learned that practicing these good traits improves character. Like the saying goes, practice makes perfect! Improving yourself is a process with many baby steps along the way.

In addition to participating in the ChitChat, the Charmlings created "Rear-View Reminders" to sell in the ClubCharm Boutique for $2 each. These hang from a rear-view mirror and clip your to-do list, so you can't forget!

Tuesday Report

Hello all! I know I am a day late, but I apologize, midterms are quite the beast to tackle. However, midterms will not stop me from enjoying my time with all the charmlings and my sisters.

Yesterday, as all Tuesdays are, was oil-painting with Yuan Shaw. The girls are continuing to paint pieces that will be made to be showcased. Also, a great revelation with some simple primer/surface prep goo was exciting to test out, it even made dear Yuan Shaw extremely ecstatic. The colors are much more vibrant and allows the canvas to not suck up all the oil from the paint.

These girls are a true testament to what patience and the willingness to learn can do!

The Golden Rule

Today, Jessica brought up the topic of Yip Yips. Yip Yips are these alien puppets on Sesame Street. It took me back to the days when I was a little girl and I would wake up early in the morning and watch Sesame Street.

Ai has also returned back after a short break from Club Charm due to her grandfather's passing. Please send your regards to her and her family

The girls: Ally, Remie, Nickye, Jaelyn, Ai, and Jordan, did the Yip Yips crochet project lead by our CC Intern Jessica. We did not get the chance to finish it however. Hopefully another day.

After the project, the girls joined Aunty Karen for yoga and while the girls were finding their inner peace, Aunty Vi, Fawn, Jessica, and I did a lot of housekeeping. The floors are so clean!

The girls then returned with a craving for cake, saimin, and pizza. It surprises me how much these little girls can eat!

Finally it was time for Chit-Chat. The chit-chat was on common courtesy. Did you know that common courtesy does not only mean just your Please and Thank you? It means treating others as you would want to be treated, aka THE GOLDEN RULE! Common Courtesy is also how we present ourselves. So self grooming is a big must! The girls also learned to practice acknowledging people. Such as, saying good morning to your parents, friends, pets, etc.

PRACTICE TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF. & REMEMBER TO ALWAYS SMILE!

Hi all

Today at Club Charm we had three of our charmlings: Maria, Tabitha, and Ally.

Jessica was practicing her "yip yip" crocheting so she can teach the girls next meeting.

Today's chit chat was about "bullying." I think all the girls got the concept because everyone participated in how to be assertive and prevent bully's from taking over other people's lives. The girls learned that they needed to exude confidence so that they do not portray "fear" to the bully.

Good Friday & Happy Easter!

Although the weather was gloomy, walking in to Club Charm brought the sunshine to my day. The new interns Ally and Jessica came in today to help. Ally, Jordan, Nickye, Remie, Jaelyn, and Maria worked on the Easter egg basket project. Watching the girls paper mache brought me back to my elementary years when I use to do projects like that.

Aunty Karen came in to do yoga with the girls. I think everyone should make time through out the day to do a little bit of yoga because it is good for the body, mind, and soul.

After yoga, we played the sleep song and prepared for our chit-chat. The chit-chat for the day was about Good Friday, Easter, and Faith. Good Friday is an important day we should all remember regardless of our religion. We are commemorating the crucifixion of Christ and his death at Calvary. Easter is honoring Jesus Christ's resurrection. The significance of this day is it established Jesus as the Son of God.

What is faith? A belief that is not based on proof. Always have faith is everything and anything. When you have faith, anything and everything is possible. A force stronger than you will always be there to answer your prayers and help you.

After the chit-chat, the day slowly came to a close. Jaelyn, Ally, and Maria left after the chit chat. Leaving Remie, Nickye, and Jordan the last ones. They finished up their Easter egg baskets and received little goodies to put in them.

Today was a good day. Especially since there was no school. YAY!!

Easter Baskets

Today Ally and I worked with Maria to make "Save the Earth" Easter Baskets. We used tissue paper and glue (paper mache) to decorate the milk cartons. Maria used her creativity to decorate her egg basket.

Aunty Vi's word of the day was "receptive." Maria learned to be open-minded to other people's opinions. Instead of saying "I know," we should be more respective to others.

We had some kakimochi that Ally called "crunchy monkey" We had our laugh for the day :)

Oil painting was fun and we had a special NYC visitor, named Sarah! This world is so small! I actually remember meeting Sarah myself years ago when she was in preschool at Waiokeola for preschool with my youngest brother Jet! AHH!!!!! This world never ceases to baffle and blow my mind.

The girls are tackling bigger canvases and new challenging artwork and their perseverance is just overall rewarding. Thank you, girls, for working so hard and although things may get messy, confusing or difficult - thank you for challenging yourself and doing everything to the best of your abilities!

We talked briefly about bullying, especially since it is such a big and important issue for students -- especially at a young to pre-teen age. We wish to instill in our Charmlings that having an amazing support system/team/family there for you is essential to becoming bull(et)y-free (AND HAVING FULL AWARENESS OF IT!). :)

Oil Painting Today~ YAY~!!

Today was an amazingly fun day for oil painting!! Yuen, Maria-chan, Ai-chan and Nami-kichi all created wonderful renditions of flowers in clear vases. What was slightly different with today's artwork was that the girls all used suuuper expensive-little canvas boards that just came in!!

Yuen has said that the girls should be doing their utmost best--she has promised to pick the finest pieces the girls have to offer and put in her art show that will be during the middle of May. Girls, let your creative and bold imagination flow!!!

Hello Everyone!

Its once again monday the great start of the week.
Since most of the students are done with spring break and back to school for the girls. They still seemed very energetic when they come to cc.

Today, Aunty wanted the girls to help do some organizing and help her paint these big words CAFE and DREAM! we had a new member join our sisterhood Jaelyn! WELCOME TO CC JAELYN! you were awesome!

For our daily, chitchat today we talked about hygiene! Aunty Vi talked about having body odor removed was important and washing your face, nostril and ears with soap helps! Aunty Vi washed Maria's hair and Maria just loved it!!

Overall, monday is a very restful day.. a day where we get back to the beginning of the week..

Here is a list of what we did:

- When I came in, the girls and Tanya and Vi were just finishing up sewing the bird-pins that they made/sewed and stuffed :D
- Our chit-chat was about self-image and we also re-established all the Charm Tenets.
- While we were doing our activities, I asked the girls to give me a run-down on what happened in the morning. The girls informed me that the chit-chat in the morning was about sports and yoga. Aunty Vi shared with the girls how important it is to stay active and continue with a sport like golf or tennis and how important it is for our lives.

Today was a very moving day for Vi, the girls, and me. I walked in, and Violet and the girls are coloring and cutting pictures for Kaitlyn's school project. It was great knowing that all the girls were willing to help Kaitlyn. This is what Club Charm is all about. When you need help with something, just bring it in and we can all work on it together. Kaitlyn's project turned out so beautiful. It is an A+++++++ work!

Maddie brought in scones for us and it was absolutely DELISH!

The next thing we know, Vi and I are looking at the clock and its already time for lunch! We didn't even realize the time go by. For lunch, we had the girls make their own sandwich. Lilia and Maddie were so willing to help clean the lettuce and the grapes. Vi and I made two different sandwiches for the girls, ham & cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. The girls enjoyed grapes and chips & salsa with the sandwiches.

After lunch, Vi had a chit-chat with the girls about Friendship. Friendship is such an important bond in your life. Cherish the friends and your relationship with them for they will always be there to help you and be a shoulder when you need one.

While the girls were downstairs at yoga w/Karen, Vi and I did some finishing touches to Kaitlyn's project. After the girls were done, the rested in the Zabuton lounge and Lilia was willing to help me fold some of the napkins and towels. She is such an adorable girl. She is always willing to help and wanting to do something. I adore that trait in her. If only everyone else in the world were like that, it would make our world that much better.

As the day went by, I just couldn't stop to notice that the time was just flying by. It was already three o'clock by the time Ally and Hannah arrived. It started to slow down because the girls were slowly departing. Vi had a chit-chat on the best version of our-selves and sisterhood. Club Charm is what a sisterhood is. The girls come here knowing that everyone here is always willing to be there, help, love, and care for each other. A sisterhood is a strong bond that should and will last a lifetime.

After the chit-chat, Ally, Hannah, and Maria decided to watch a movie. We popped in Molly: The American Girl. We made the some popcorn and that was how we ended our day. We let the relax while Vi did some office work and I did some cleaning.

The next thing I know, its 6:30 p.m and its time for my departure from Club Charm. Today was a very moving day and I just wish everyday could be like that.

Today was so great! I am so proud of the girls! Witnessing the enhancement and maturing of these girls from the first time they ever stepped into ClubCharm to now, is just amazing. The girls were eager to showcase their pride in workmanship as we all worked together to make ClubCharm look spick&span.. Is that how you spell it?

When I came in for my 2-6PM shift, the girls did a run down of what the chit-chat in the morning was about. Each girl was able to tell me one specific point that was made and were even able to elaborate on each point! BRAVO!

Then, Yuan Shaw came in and it was many of the girls' first itme ever working with oil paints. Yet, you cannot even tell that these girls have never touched a palette knife in their life... The girls made lily ponds that were stupendous!

Relaxing Furlough Friday

The Afternoon started off with Maria, Hailey, and Jordan practicing our new and improved CC Groove with Auntie Vi. When Ally joined us, she showed off her dance from her birthday party on Saturday. Then we joined Auntie Lani to make standing Japanese dolls similar to the bookmarks we made last Friday. Auntie Karen came in for the week's yoga and the girls came back relaxed, but hungry. :) After a snack, we had our chit chat on etiquette. We talked about how although the girls may be in Hawaii where it is very relaxed, soon the girls will travel and become global citizens where the rules are not always the same. While we listened to the sleep song, Ally and Nomi cuddled up next to me in the Zabuton lounge (which was adorable btw) and took a lil nap and talked to me about their day. That has got to be one of the best parts of CC is growing a relationship with the girls and having that closeness between us. The girls began to decorate their journals as they were picked up for the evening. It was a relaxing day at CC, which was unusual for a Friday. But nonetheless we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. So long for now as I will be on Spring Break for the next two weeks. I hope that you have a wonderful break and make some time to rest.

We just got through with our chit chat topic on "journal writing". The girls learned about the importance of creating and writing in their journals.

Big Sis Stephanie helped Maria sew up a journal cover for her diary. Aunty Vi taught the girls how to make book marks out of beads. They were absolutely adorable!!

Frantic CC Friday

I hope you all had a wonderful Friday today despite the rainy weather. Today at Club Charm, the girls started off doing a project with Auntie Lani where we made adorable paper Japanese girl bookmarks! The girls did an amazing job and learned so well that they helped me with my bookmark. After the girls took care of their bookmarks, they did yoga. I finally got to see the girls do some yoga and was thoroughly impressed with their learning of yoga and proper nutrition. After the girls had a quick snack, the ladies joined Vi in the Zabuton lounge for the daily chit chat. The chit chat was a continuation of last week and how the girls are different and we can all be different in good ways and bad ways. We also talked about how important touch is and how we can each make a difference in the world with our gifts and talents. The monthly meeting is about to commence so this is Fawn CC intern and big sister and resident psychologist signing off for the evening. Have a blessed weekend and may blessings fall upon you.

Greatness of Creativity

It was a quiet peaceful day with just Ai coming in. Aunty Vi brought pink Femal, a type of clay which can be hardened in the oven at 250 degrees. We started off making the ClubCharm butterfly. Ai and I made different interpretations of the butterfly. I didn't know it would be so hard to make a little butterfly. After, we made roses with the clay.

After the clay harden, Aunty Vi added details to the butterfly and made a necklace! Ai was very demanding when Aunty Vi was helping Ai decorate her rose. Ai is very creative and Aunty Vi calls her "MY BOSS" because of how hard she makes Aunty Vi work. Ai knows how to use her creativity to the fullest and thats what we want to teach our girls at ClubCharm.

Overall, it was a very relaxing day at ClubCharm.

In Japan Girl's Day if referred to as hina-matsuri. So to all you wonderful charmlings and beautiful girls out there, HINA-MATSURI!! Ai chan look too cute today with her kimono and Japanese-style hair bun.

Today we were visited by the all-girl's school, Sacred Hearts. They enjoyed doing yoga with Karen. The girls felt so refreshed and "relaxed". After yoga Aunty Vi held her daily chit chats. The girls learned about self-confidence, growing up, and our club motto, "you get what you create". Aunty Vi prepared a special snack for the girls. She baked cheesy nachos with salsa and served pog juice. To coincide with today's Girl's Day theme, she bought mochi for the girls to taste. Today's arts and crafts activity was creating a glittery cherry blossom pin. Thank you Sacred Hearts Academy for joining us in our hina-matsuri activities! We hope you girls come back to visit and become an official member!

So it is the second day of the month and we don't stop for anything. As normal as a Tuesday is, we had Yuan Shaw over and we did some oil-painting... However, before the oil-painting, the ever-so talented Yuan Shaw made the girls butterfly bracelets with the minimal materials left to work with.

The paintings done were inspired by a fireplace and mostly focused on the actual fire in the fireplace. When the task was completed, the reaction and creative minds of the girls went to work as they said that their paintings could also pass for a sea urchin or a sea anemone.

Remember everyone, tomorrow is Hina-matsuri.. aka Girls Day! :D

Hi all!!

Today was the second no Furlough Friday. The girls came at around 2:30 and enjoyed a new HEALTHY snack. Remi brought her two friends from school and they got to have the full club charm experience. We had veggie chips and the girls were crazy for them! Glad we got to find a guilt-free potato chip!

Karen came today for her yoga time with the charmlings. After yoga Fawn made Aunty Vi's specialty smoothie and the girls felt so refreshed.

Aunty Vi's chit chat of "people differences" helped boost the girls confidence in that being different and standing out from other people can be positive. Some people wear glasses, some people have braces, some have brown hair, some have gold... everyone stands out in another way. If you play up your "differences" in a positive light, people will have no desire to bring you down. In other words, as Aunty Vi would say, "you get what you create."

Doesn't it feel like Monday just comes around too early in the week? Well Ally, Maria, and Tabitha found one of the best way to kick the Monday blues--BROWNIES!!! Yes, by the power of teamwork and with a common goal of consuming deliciousness in mind, the girls made really great chewy brownies with little help from us CC Interns. (Lora and I mainly watched and helped out with the oven part :3)

Ally, Maria and Tabitha also began learning the CC new groove~ which is ridiculously easy and very versatile~! It can go with ANY song!!! And a lot of the hand movements are freestyle!

Today's chitchat discussed that it is good to be brave and try new things. Tabitha shared a story that this past weekend at her uncles' birthday party peking duck was served. This being a forgien food to her, Tabitha had said that she didn't like it--just because it was unknown. However, she did try some and to her surprise, she found that she really did like duck! What we all should take from this experience is that, just try it. A little bit, at least. Then you can truly see if you like it or not--you'll never know and surprise yourself at times~

Hi Club Charm Ohana!!

Today was more of a busy day. The girls started off doing homework and then began to do yoga, as we switched yoga to Fridays instead of Wednesdays. Then the girls came upstairs to do a little stuffed bird pin project. The interns cut out patterns for the girls and they sewed and stuffed the little birds until they looked like beautiful expensive little masterpieces. We did our daily chit chat at the activity table and the word of the day was 'try'. Auntie Vi talked to the girls about why it is important to try new things because you never know what you like and do not like unless you try! The girls quickly brought up however that some things are not to be tried like drugs and tobacco. We finished up the little pins just in the nick of time as the parents came in to pick up their little charmlings for the weekend. Have a good weekend CC Ohana and may you receive many blessings!
